Horticulture and land management ( available at the Consett branch )

Based at the Walled Garden at Minsteracres, we have 2 acres of land including two large polytunnels and a Victorian greenhouse, allowing our service-users the opportunity to gain skills in horticulture and land management. This project includes: the cultivation of seeds and cuttings, growing plants and vegetables, forestry and estate work, and delivering produce to local outlets. Service users find this project very therapeutic - working with nature in the fresh air, exercise and seeing their work literally “growing” before their eyes. It is a hugely rewarding experience that draws on many other skills as well.

Regional magazine ( available at the Newcastle branch )

Based at our Newcastle branch, the production of the “Daybreak Independent” magazine allows our service users the opportunity to explore and learn a wide range of skills including: design and desk-top-publishing, photography, computer skills, interview skills, numeracy/literacy and community visits. Our service-users then use their research skills to write interesting and informative articles on issues and interests which affect them and these are published in the quarterly magazine in association with the Newcastle Journal and Chronicle newspaper. This is an exciting and rewarding project giving an insight into journalism and the production of a finished product.

Sensory Awareness ( available at the Consett branch )

At our Consett branch we have a fully equipped sensory room, which allows our service users the opportunity to relax in a therapeutic environment.
