NORTHUMBRIA DAYBREAK
Inspiring adults with learning disabilities
Our Newcastle branch is located in the Ouseburn Valley close to the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.
We publish a unique quarterly magazine called the “Daybreak Independent.” It is a magazine specifically for people with learning disabilities and is published with the help of The Evening Chronicle newspaper using funds which we raise for that purpose.
Our service-users run the nearby café facility at the Stepney Bank Stables, providing opportunities to gain catering, monetary and service skills while providing healthy home-cooked meals. These can be purchased by service-users, staff and visitors to the stables.
Our PC suite provides multi-media skills training.
The local community is accessed by service-users to take part in drama, dancing, swimming, sport and cultural activities.
Our reception area is operated by service-users who are being trained in reception duties and telephone skills.
We facilitate accredited training courses, which allow our service-users to gain a recognised award in various subject areas.
